Today in Computer History (November 10, 1983): Microsoft Introduces Windows!
On November 10, 1983, Microsoft announced their Windows operating system. Gates promised that the new software would ship by April 1984 but, Windows 1.0 did not ship until November 20, 1985. Windows 1.0 and 2.0 weren't big sellers, and it wasn't until Windows 3.0, where Windows got widespread appeal. The Windows software was very similar to Apple's Macintosh OS, which ultimately led to a court case, which ruled in favor of Microsoft. Microsoft ended support for Windows 1.0 in December 2001, which made it the longest supported Windows version to date.
