Today in Film History (October 31st, 1941): Walt Disney's "Dumbo" is Released
On October 31st, 1941, the iconic Disney film, "Dumbo" was released in U.S. theaters! "Dumbo" was produced to recoup the financial losses of both "Pinocchio" and "Fantasia", and was much simpler and shorter than other Disney features, clocking in at only 64 minutes long. "Dumbo" premiered in New York City on October 23rd, 1941, and received critical acclaim for its story, humor, visuals, and music. It won an Academy Award for Best Scoring of a Musical Picture. Since its release, the film has been criticized for its stereotyping of black people, but still remains a popular Disney film to this day.
