Today in Tech History (November 28, 1948): Polaroid Releases It's First Instant Camera!

On November 28, 1948, the first Polaroid Instant camera, the Model 95, and Instant Film were put on sale at Jordan Marsh department store in Boston just in time for the holidays. 57 units were originally produced and expected to last until Christmas, but all fifty-seven units and all film sold within the first day! It was simple to use and easy to move around, and could produce a sepia-toned photograph in about 1 minute. The Model 95 sold nearly 1 million units, making Polaroid the "big-name" in the instant film industry. Black & white film was produced in 1950, and color film was first produced in 1963. Polaroid stopped making instant cameras in 2008.
