The first home video game console was the Magnavox Odyssey. It was designed by Ralph Baer, who created the prototype, known as the “Brown Box”, in 1966. Ralph Baer went on to create the Simon memory game in 1978, which was manufactured by Milton Bradley. It was released in September 1972 in North America, and two years later in the UK and EU. It had a price of $99.95 in 1972. The console connects to a TV, and has two controllers. The console came bundled with many board game type pieces, so that people who were unfamiliar with video games could feel safe with the console. This console also had the first video game light gun that was sold separately. The console was discontinued in 1975, with 350,000 units sold.
